Governors

Mrs Roberts – Chair of Governing Body

My name is Mrs Roberts and I have been a governor here at Kingsbury School and Sports College for 14 years. I started as a parent governor when my eldest child was a student here. All of my children have now left the school but I have decided to carry on as a community governor as I care about the school and our local community.

Being a governor is hard work but also very rewarding. Our work is toimprove the education of the young people in the school and the links between Kingsbury School and Sports College and the local community. We are responsible for making sure the students are safe and enjoy their time at school and achieve to their best ability.

It’s not all meetings being a governor we get to attend presentation evenings, induction days and take part in the interviews for new staff.

As well as looking at the whole school responsibility we also have a particular area to look after. These are listed with the other governor names.

What is a School Governor?

You don’t need to be a parent or an expert in educational issues to become a school governor. You get support in your role and training. As a school governor the most important investment you can make is your time and enthusiasm.

You will need to be able to attend meetings and be willing to read up on relevant issues. You should be motivated and have a strong desire to improve the education of young people and the links between your school and the local community.

There are various types of governors in school governing bodies, all of whom are volunteers. These include:

  • Parent governors – elected by other parents at the school.
  • Staff governors – elected by other members of staff at the school.
  • Local Authority (LA) governors – appointed by LA.
  • Community governors – appointed by the governing body as representatives of the wider community in which the school is based.
